Introduction

Money can be a source of stress or a tool for blessing, it depends on how we manage it. As Christians, we are called to be good stewards of the resources God provides. The Bible offers timeless wisdom on financial stewardship, showing us how to handle money in a way that honours God and secures our future. Let’s explore five Biblical principles for managing your finances wisely.

1. Trust in God’s Provision

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’... But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:31-33

God promises to provide for our needs when we put Him first. Focusing on seeking His kingdom instead of worrying about finances is to align our financial decisions with God’s will. It is being faithful with what we have, and trusting that He will take care of us.

2. Faithful, Financial Stewardship

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” Luke 16:10-11

God calls us to be responsible with what we are given, whether it's a little or a lot. This includes budgeting wisely, avoiding unnecessary debt, and using our resources to bless others. Faithful stewardship shows God that we are trustworthy with His blessings.

3. Avoid Debt and Live Within Your Means

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” Proverbs 22:7

Debt can quickly become a burden that limits financial freedom. The Bible warns against excessive borrowing and encourages us to live within our means. Practicing contentment and making wise spending decisions can help us stay out of unnecessary debt and remain financially secure. When you're shopping ask yourself, "is this a need or a want?"

4. Give Generously

“Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Generosity is a key Biblical principle that reflects God’s love. When we give freely—whether through tithes, offerings, or helping those in need—we demonstrate trust in God’s provision and participate in His work. Giving should come from a place of gratitude, not obligation.

5. Plan and Save for the Future

“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” Proverbs 21:5

Financial planning is a Biblical principle that ensures stability and security. Saving for the future, setting financial goals, and investing wisely are ways we can prepare for both expected and unexpected expenses. Being diligent with our finances allows us to provide for our families and be a blessing to others.

Conclusion

Managing finances wisely requires trust in God, faithful stewardship, and intentional planning. By applying these five biblical principles, we can honor God with our money and experience financial peace.
