Enhance your Bible study and prayer time by creating an intentional plan for your daily devotion.

Studying the bible takes consistency and an intentional heart to learn and grow spiritually. With the help of the Holy Spirit and a few tips from my own experience I will help you to get started easily.
These tips will help to get you excited to want more of Gods' Word to transform your life in ways beyond the limits of our small human thoughts and help you get passed over thinking and discouraging thoughts that may prevent you from getting the most of your study time.
Tip #1 - Read Small Amounts of Scripture At A Time
Seriously. Don't read the entire book or chapter and think you get it. One small passage can have days of lessons in it. The bible is loaded with more wisdom than we will likely ever truly understand, but God will show it to you in a way that fits your life, for you and the journey He has placed in your heart. There is theology, yes, but as your faith grows, you will see and hear more of what God wants for you to learn. Your understanding will come from experience and living the scripture through the days after you read it. So take small amounts at a time, meditate on it, pray over it and then LISTEN for the lesson. The Holy Spirit will help.
Tip #2 - It Doesn't Have To Happen at 4am
But it has to happen daily. There are people who get up before the sun and their coffee to pray and worship. There are people who study late into the night, and there are some who make bible study part of their all day routine. If you have the conviction to sit with God, then do it when you feel the nudge of the Holy Spirit. If you find your days are blending together and you haven't read the bible or talked to Jesus in a while, then you may need to schedule it in a calendar the same as other appointments and activities.
There was a time I needed to schedule my showers and meals because I had a full-time job that was really like two jobs, full-time leadership school, freelance marketing clients and family drama all happening at once. If I hadn't scheduled time for Jesus it wasn't happening. Life happens every day. Realistically, we can always find worldly things to keep us busy. But we need to choose Jesus time, Kingdom time, and make it happen every single day, whenever possible.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ~ John 14:6
Tip #3 - Keep it Simple
I love the S.O.A.P Bible Study method because it keeps the process simple and clean. I am an overthinker, so this keeps me on track. I find it better to use a real bible instead of the internet because I can squirrel down a bible story path and not realize how much time flies by. A study bible is extra helpful for context in times when I really don't understand the passage.
Start with S: Scripture. Choose one passage at random or from a daily devotional you like. Read it outloud and then write it down. This helps you remember it. O: Observe: Write down any words, ideas or messages that come to mind when you read the passage. A: Application: Ask God how the scripture can apply to your life right now. P: Pray thanks for the lesson and ask God to help you apply what you learned. See how S.O.A.P is simple?
Tip #4 - Bonus Tip
